We cycled the Mawson trial for 3 weeks in September 2019 in an attempt to try out our new gear and get fit for our aborted 2020 cycle across the Americas.
From the photos we had seen on other people’s blogs, we half expected the route to be a bit boring. However, it turned out to be one of our favourite cycling adventures. Over 900 km of cycling goodness with massive skies, mostly carless roads and tracks, cool towns (with good food), wineries and desert. There are lots of good camp spots, but also there are old huts, railway stations and other historical buildings to stay in – they are mostly free and often have a fire place or pot belly stove!
First section out of Adelaide.

Second section through wineries

Skies open up on the way to Burra (where there is a great pizza and wine bar!). We stayed in the very posh old Burra rail station.

It starts to dry out as you cross the Goyder line.

Last stretch before it really dries out.

Into the dry (including a very good pub in the middle of absolutely nowhere).

And the Flinders ranges to top it all off!

I know it was a while ago but do you remember how you got back from the Flinders Ranges?

There was a bus back from the end of the trail (or at least the nearest town). There was a flash pub there too.

The trial ends in Blinman. From there you have to cycle to Parachilna to get the bus. Its a nice ride and the pub is at Parachilna
