Cycled through the most amazing community gardens around Isle-Adam and Senlis. Must have been 10 acres or so of small plots, with sheds, scarecrows and rows of neatly tended herbs and veges.
In Germany we call them “schrebergaerten” and it is a fantastic world of its own, with a really interesting history. Ellie is always amazed by them in Germany and my brothers both own one.
In the UK they are called allotments. They used to be very common and were how the working class prevented the fucking Tories starving them to death.
