Escaping the wet with a swim

We woke up this morning in a small lake of water. As you can imagine it was also slightly cool so we decided to escape our wet, sodden tent with a visit to the local pool.

Although it has a population of only 1000 people, Eskifjörður, like Hofn, also has a waterslide!

Basically, using the slides involves soaking yourself in the hottest tub available, waiting until you can barely stand it, and rushing up the stairs to the top of the slide. Then repeat over and over. For a real thrill you can also dunk yourself in the ice tub, just to remind yourself that it’s actually cold out in the real world.

It was really fun to use an outdoor waterslide in the rain, with snow covered peaks all around, and the temperature a balmy nine degrees.

After we decided to seek refuge at the local cafe/bar. It was really friendly, and we got caught up in an Icelandic trivia game. Surprisingly, we discovered we suck at Icelandic trivia….
