Side trip into the mountains around Vik

It is blowing a gale as I write this. The rain is almost horizontal and it feels like the tent is going to blow away with us in it.

In the mountains

Alli decided to stay at camp in the warm communal shelter while I rode up into the mountains. I had read there was a track that takes you to a rocky Tor between two glaciers and thought I would check it out.

The cycle up almost killed me. The headwind was incredible and I could barely mange 10 km an hour on the flats even without the panniers. It was incredibly beautiful, with twisted rocky outcrops and drops into glacial valleys. Unfortunate I couldn’t see much at the top and it was too wet to take photos.

The ride down was one of the funnest things I’ve done in a while though. Downhill over dirt rough tracks, freezing cold rain, gale force winds and giant twisted rocks. Almost went over a cliff when I mistimed a corner – in short, awesome!
