The perfect pastry?

I’m loving Greece more each day I spend here. It’s so much more civilised than the Balkans, with clean roads, finished houses and most importantly, real pastry shops. And today, to top it all off, I may have found the perfect pastry. I’m not sure if the absence has made my desire stronger, I was really hungry or if it really is some some kind of Greek pastry magic, but this may have been my favourite pastry of the trip so far (big call I know).

To my shame, I’m not sure what it was called. I asked, but I think it was lost in translation (the closest I got was krem, but I think this refers to any filling vaguely resembling cream).

This custard filled delight had an unbelievably moorish buttery pastry – I would have paid just to eat the crust. The custard was both salty and sweet, without too much of either. The lady who served it, dusted it in fresh cinnamon before serving it up. The whole thing melted in my mouth, and as I’m writing this, I’m starting to salivate at the thought of eating another one! 5 stars.
