Once again we’ve found ourselves travelling through a location (Bosnia-Herzogovina) not renowned for its pastries. Although there are plenty of bakeries, they aren’t really anything to write home about, selling croissants, baked doughnuts and the odd scroll. However in true east meets west style, Bosnia also has plenty of Middle Eastern delights, including baklava, halva and Turkish delights (with all kinds of colours and different nut fillings).
They also have a Bosnian specialty known as Tufajia (pronounced a bit like too far here). It consists of an apple that has been poached in a sweet syrup, stuffed with walnut and sweet cheese (a bit like clotted cream), and topped with whipped cream. They are decadently sweet, but strangely healthy. I made sure I ate one for each day we stayed in Sarajevo!

Oh, and this custard slice wasn’t bad either…..both were worthy of four and a half stars.
