We didn’t really spend enough time in Italy to get a full appreciation of the pastries on offer (and it’s difficult to fit in both a daily gelato as well as pastries), but what we saw, we liked!

Brioche – everyone eats these for breakfast, and they come in all shapes and sizes, fresh and prepackaged. This one was fresh and came filled with a fruit compote. Combine this with a coffee and you’ve reached Nirvana! 4 1/2 stars.

A custard slice like no other. Bought this from a bakery in Trieste, tucked away down an alley, and run by a little old lady (as all good bakeries should be). It smelt divine, and tasted just as good! 4 stars.

A parcel pastry from the same bakery. They had a lot of these little parcels, all with different fillings. This one is filled with a dry coconut mix. Really good with tea or coffee, and actually tasted like it might be good for me. 4 stars.
mmm now you’re talking 🙂
