Following the Danube

Superhero Matt on the train

After 7 hours and 4 different trains (surprisingly not as painful as it sounds) we have arrived in the land of sausages and beer.

We spent our first day exploring Regensburg. We started out with a cycle through the old town, followed by a picnic lunch by the Danube, then on to our first brewery sample for the day (Spital) followed by our second brewery sample, which also happened to come from the oldest sausage house in Europe (they claim to have been making sausages for over 500 years). Needless to say we had to sample the sausages as well. Last stop was to check out the cathedral, before heading back to the campsite for the night.

The next two days we’ve spent cycling flat cycle ways next to the Danube, with the sun in full swing, heading towards Passau. It’s been hard: pack up, cycle 10 km, stop at bakery and pick up delicious pastries, cycle a little further, have lunch, on a bit until a brewery stop, or two (which could also include a sausage snack), then finish at a campground right on the route.
