The rain and cold had been getting to us a bit, so all decided to have a rest day in Aarhus. Really glad we did as its a lovely town and we got a fantastic apartment off airbnb at the last minute (thanks to Toby).
The city has a population of around 300,000, is very densely packed together and has a great cycling culture (and infrastructure) so it’s really easy to get around (and of course there are lots of bicycles to ogle).
We went to the ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum in the morning. It’s really quite an impressive gallery, with some great contemporary installations and a rainbow walk around the top, which gives a panoramic view out over the city, through different coloured shades of glass.
We were also really lucky to turn up while the Aarhus festival was on. This meant that the city was bursting with life and there was music on all over town. Although we didn’t really partake in any festivities, it was just nice to walk around with everything going on (and a great antidote to the lack of street life we found in most of Iceland).
