A very wet morning

The rain continued overnight, and we woke to a very wet tent and an ever wetter campsite (if that’s possible). By some miracle our clothes and sleeping bags were still dry, but the tent and ground sheets had seen better times. We did the best we could taking everything down and stowing it away in our panniers, praying for a break in the rain so that we could dry some things out before having to put them back up that night. We then had a very wet cycle back up over the hill to Reyðarfjörður, and and even wetter cycle on the road climbing the pass to Egilsstaðir. With the rain and heavy fog we had to imagine the views as we climbed up over 350 meters.

Once we crested the top of the pass, the rain stopped, and the sky started to lighten. The ride down was a hoot.  We cruised the 15 or so kilometres into Egilsstaðir in a flash – at one point reaching 65 kms per hour on the downhill run (I think we must have averaged 50k/h).

The rain was still at bay by the time we reached the campsite, and with the stiff breeze, we managed to dry out the ground sheets and tent before we put them up (there may have been some jumping for joy at this point).
