Reyðarfjörður to Eskifjörður

The rain managed to hold up long enough for us to pack up the tent relatively dry, but was in full swing by the time we cycled out of town. Our Gore jackets are holding up remarkably well, and we’re yet to get even the slightest bit wet through them (unfortunately I can’t say the same for the rest of us though – we may need to invest in some rain pants come winter).  We had a very short cycling day today, 15km up over the hill to Eskifjörður.

The campsite was completely empty when we arrived, which was a massive difference from the rest of the campsites we’ve been in. We’re loving the campsites in the East Fjords. This one has the most trees we have seen yet, and we found a flat sheltered spot with trees blocking nearly all of the wind, and a view of a large waterfall on the mountain above.

By late afternoon the rain was really starting to set in, and it absolutely bucketed down overnight. By morning, what was a quaint waterfall was now a raging torrent, and the ground was so soaked that there was a good 1-2 inches of water sitting on top of the grass. Perfect day for a rest. We holed up in our dry tent (have I mentioned how amazing our tarp is?), reading and listening to the rain patter around us.
