We left Höfn with low clouds threatening more rain. The Icelandic scenery soon turned back into spectacular towering cliffs but now covered in misty clouds.
Its very cold, with temperatures struggling to get much above ten degrees. This, with the extreme wind chill makes it hard to stop anywhere for long. We’ve found that temperatures can shift here in a matter of minutes. One minute it’s a tolerable 12 degrees or so, then wind swings around and suddenly it seems like the temperature plunges by 5 degrees.
We saw thousands of whooping swans in the tidal lagoons around Lon. Apparently they migrate here every summer. It’s hard to understand how they can survive in the water.

Despite the cold, we’re both holding up well. I think most of the time the stunning scenery makes us forget that we’re uncomfortable.

We finished up in Djúpivogur with a soak in the local hot tubs. We stayed in until we were pink happy lobsters!
