Critical mass rally London

Attended a critical mass rally in London with Toby, Bradley and Dee. For those who don’t know what this is, it involves a few thousand cyclists taking over the city of London for a couple of hours on a Friday night.

The event is uncoordinated – the website describes it as an unorganised coincidence that happens when a lot of cyclists happen to be at the same place at the same time and decide to cycle the same way together for a while. As a result the ride takes a pretty anarchistic route across London occasionally backtracking on itself, but achieving its aim of bringing traffic to a complete standstill.

The whole thing relies on some very brave souls cycling ahead of the mass to block the path of incoming traffic. This creates a sometimes confrontational environment, with car drivers getting a little irate (lots of beeping, swearing, some spitting and we even saw a bike being run over – thankfully with no one on it!).

It was a great way to cycle across London’s congested streets, without the threat of being run over by a lorry or a bus. God save the Queen (and her facist regime)!!

PS – Alli may have come close to a heart attack through sheer dint of rule breaking. Those of you who know her well, would know she doesn’t normally like to cross the road when the man is red! A few pints of beer sorted her out just fine though.
